Posted on September 29th, 2009 by admin

Hi!

I’d just like to know which method of purchasing tickets for gigs people tend to prefer as I’m buying some tomorrow morning and I’m unsure whether phone or online is my best option.

Thanks in advance!

How old do you have to be to do a music tour and/or gigs?

Posted on September 29th, 2009 by admin

Because me and my band are only like 13 & 14…

It’s less about your age and more about your sound and talent. You have to keep this in mind to do tours you need to get there(thus transportation, gas, and since none of you guys are old enough to drive a chaffeur willing to carry you from place to place),you need to have your music gear ready, you’ll need a good manager to get you gigs and touring, and your music is really gonna have to be on point. If you have all that then yoru age won’t be a factor at all but just don’t get under mainstream idea of tours. Tours and Gigs aren’t paid for by the "Record label" it comes out of your own pockets in the real world, until you get signed to a label you’ll have to find your own gigs and venues(you won’t be playing at Warped Tour) but instead you’ll be at local clubs and events and you’ll going to have to really work for PR and Fanbase(thats really what gets you in the door). Hope that Helps.

How do I obtain the permits for my band to play gigs in Canada ?

Posted on September 29th, 2009 by admin

My band (from Chicago )has been offered a tour with a string of dates across the border in canada . I am looking into what documents we need to obtain to cross the border for this purpose and how much they cost

Permits, shmermits. If terrorists can cross over to here from there I figure you should be allowed to just walk across and play….unless you play very badly, of course. Wait…no, I suppose that shouldn’t matter.

Best digital camera for music gigs?

Posted on September 29th, 2009 by admin

What would be a good digital camera that i can take to gigs. So a camera that’s good in low lighting and with alot of moving around. Also it would need to have a good battery life and preferably with its own rechargable battery.

Also, it can’t be professional looking because those aren’t allowed.

For the money FinePix series are decent cameras. My S700 is 7.1 Megapixels and was only 200 dollars last year…now they are up to around 12 megapixels, probably for the same amount of money.

What percentage of music performers who do small gigs have their mechanical license?

Posted on September 29th, 2009 by admin

What percentage of music performers woul you guess who do small gigs in coffee shops and local clubs have their mechanical license or copyright permission to sing or perform copyright music? How is this law being monitored too. Those musicians that haven’t paid a royalty fee to perform some one elses song, how is this law being enforced or monitored?
Thanks.

BMI and ASCAP send monitors to check to make sure no one is using the catalogue without paying the licensing fee.

Under BMI/ASCAP Nightclub owners have been found liable for failing to pay licensing fee. Even juke box owners who fail to pay licensing fees has been liable. In Broadcast Music Inc, v. Allen-Genoa Rd. Drive-in, Inc., a BMI field investigator found a juke box that was playing BMI controlled music and did not have a BMI registration sticker.
