Band help: am i doing the right thing?

Posted on October 28th, 2010 by admin

well i have a band, and what im doing and thought of doing was this:

try to get a new singer,
then decide on a name when are official members are together
then work on single album
then record
then music vid a song
then get a photoshoot

create accounts on many social sharing sites(youtube, facebook, etc.) and official website
for youtube work on band covers to gain publicity
once gained enough, debut the single album with promo
get gigs, tour with bigger bands to expand fanbase
distribute originals online and locally, selling merchandise at gigs

work on an EP and promote
then contact guitarist’s uncle to contact his label to check us out
distribute originals to record labels

tell me if im doing anything wrong, and all the big social sharing sites you know, please take note that im only 16 so i dont have any experience at all
also idk if important, but were a rock/metal/punk/pop/alternative genred band, a member is visual kei
i mean the members are visual kei and in america

i would concentrate on music until you get signed. don’t worry about photo shoots, or videos until you can have someone else pay for it. make your music is good as possible. book shows and perform to gain exposure. post videos and music online to gain more exposure.

of couse, everything is easier said than done. just take every opportunity to perform. open for local artists, play in the park, or at city festivals or talent shows. do anything to get experience.

Queston about playing live gigs with a band?

Posted on October 26th, 2010 by admin

ok so if i were to get a gig with my band and play..would i need a sound technician and all that or could i just play off the amp…playing thrash metal…and is there anything else i would need or would need to know? thx

Depends. If you’re playing through a promoter then they will tell you what is required, otherwise it’s best to use a P.A. system. If it is independantly, you will need[at the very least] amps, guitars, a drum set, a mic and mic stand, and the various cables required.

how to get gigs for a rock band when your 13?

Posted on October 20th, 2010 by admin

hey, we made a band, and we were wondering how to get gigs if where only 13?

There should be an all-ages community around, depending on where you live. Start going to gigs in youth centres, scout dens etc. and talk to the organiser. Or better yet, start your own scene! Organise a gig in an all-ages space, advertise it by handing out flyers, and get your mates’ bands to play, as well as playing yourselves.

How can i get my band more gigs?

Posted on October 17th, 2010 by admin

i am 15, and so are the other members of the band. I like to think we are quite good. we have a wide range of music and perform well together. We practice in our local Youth Centre. We have only had one gig so far, at our school. It went very well. So please give us so tips! thanks! :)

It’s tough at that age since you can’t do bars. What you should do is a few gigs at no charge. An hour at a party, picnic, etc. Then if you’re good then they may just pay you to stay another hour or so and word will get out about you. Have flyers printed up with your band’s name and info and have those available by the stage. Make up tshirts – super cheap to do these days since you can buy iron-on transfers you can use in an ink jet printer – and have at least one band member wearing this AND have it on the bass drum so no one’s sitting there going "Who are these guys?"

You could even burn CD’s of some of your songs and have them available for sale at the gigs. I have a CD out to raise funds for a shelter and only paid $1.99 for CD’s complete with plastic cases, tray cards, shrink wrap, etc. Word of mouth is HUGE in getting a band noticed – and getting gigs.

Hopefully you write songs and don’t just do covers? If you are just doing covers then work on some of your own material. It won’t get you noticed if you sing someone else really well – what’ll get you noticed in when you’re ORIGINAL. DO know plenty of covers, though, as parties tend to want bands to play songs everyone knows. But throw in a few of your own songs with each gig.

Good luck! :)

In iTunes, where can I see how many gigs of checked music I have?

Posted on October 15th, 2010 by admin

At the bottom of the iTunes program, it says I have 13.91 gigs of music total, but that includes checked and unchecked songs. I want to know how many gigs of CHECKED songs I have. Is there any way to do this?

Put only those songs in a playlist then select the playlist.

What are other websites I can go to to look for temporary job gigs?

Posted on October 10th, 2010 by admin

I’ve been exploring Craigslist for labor gigs until work picks up for me. Are there any other websites out there that has similar labor gigs I can search for in my area?

I’ve heard of hotjobs.com is a good site for finding jobs and tempory jobs i think.
