how and maybe where can an all-girl band get gigs?

Posted on March 29th, 2011 by admin

my band is made of 15/16 yrs. old girls. We play classic rock and a little alternative. I just need ideas for places to play.

same as any other bands get gigs, but more problematic due to your age
you should try to play at parties, school dances, youth clubs and so on

What is the best gig/club guide for new york?

Posted on March 27th, 2011 by admin

Is there a mainstream one and an more undeground one?
Something more like with just dates on, not like a review book.

thanks!

There are dozens of great Web sites with excellent club reviews. Many of them are referenced and linked to in this guide:

How can my band get gigs?

Posted on March 25th, 2011 by admin

I am 15 and so is everyone in my band and we need to know how to get recognized and get gigs and money by playing songs we made and covers.

Find place that plays live music and ask if you can demo for them and see if they will give you a nights work

Send demos radio stations especially local & independant and even turn up and offer to be interviewed

Try & play a free public gig

Where can I find the BBC footage of Hadouken at Reading Festival 2010?

Posted on March 23rd, 2011 by admin

There was a whole video of the whole gig from Reading on the BBC Reading/Leeds page, it was about 28 minutes long if I remember. Anyone know where I can find this footage?

How to find paying gigs for my band?

Posted on March 21st, 2011 by admin

So I’m in this band, we were really going somewhere – had a whole nationwide tour booked and ready to go, when the manager screwed us all and dumped us and the entire tour. Now, I’m really not opposed to staying local (in Pittsburgh) and paying our dues that way, but I’m at a loss as to how to get paying gigs. The guy was a JERK, but he really had connections.

tl;dr – How can I book shows for my (awesome) band?

Your unlikely to just fall right into a decent paying gig. Starting small, getting your name out there first is really the only way to go if you don’t have a label or manager. Get a demo out, coffee shops, house parties, bars etc.

When bands play concerts/gigs do they have to get permission to do covers?

Posted on March 19th, 2011 by admin

When bands play concerts/gigs do they have to get permission to do covers?

im talking about famous bands

Only if they’re going to sell a recording of the cover. Otherwise it ought to be all fair game.

what’s the chance of an unknown band getting a few gigs?

Posted on March 17th, 2011 by admin

My friends and I are starting a band. I’m serious about it. We’re not talented enough yet but after a couple months practice we should be decent. Is it hard to get a gig in a bar/pub? We’d be playing old school rock/indie as well as some songs we will write

Not really. Just ask. If they decline just go to a different pub or bar.

By the way, do you have some sort of video on youtube or somewhere so i can hear what you guys sound like. I would be glad to hear you guys so i can comment about it.

What Video Camera or device do you guys recommend to record band practices, gigs and concerts?

Posted on March 14th, 2011 by admin

Im looking forward to buy a Camera or device that records good video quality and sound quality because i want to record during concerts and gigs. I Also want to record a few band practices. What do you guys recommend? My budget is anything thats $200 and down. Thank you.

Honestly, for $200 I’d opt for a good digital audio recorder, one designed for music such as these by Olympus:

http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_voicerecorders.asp?section=pcm

Digital video in that price range is poor at best (Yes, even HD), and the audio is highly compressed and even worse than the video. If you can up your budget to $250, the best audio and video you can get is Canon’s ZR960 MiniDab tape camera.

Seems counter intuitive, but the quality of MiniDv exceeds even high end HD cameras, and MiniDab uses uncompressed audio with better than CD quality.
