Is it illegal to resell tickets at an event?

Posted on June 29th, 2011 by admin

At a concert in the middle of London, for the same price we paid. We always see people asking for spare tickets around gigs in London and I have a spare ticket to one, if I sold it to them would it be breaking the law? I have this annoying vision of me saying yes to selling it then taken to a police office and never being at the gig…

In most cases it is not illegal (as in against the law of the land) to sell on event tickets. There are some exceptions. EG It is illegal to resell tickets for football matches, and I’m fairly sure that it is (or will be) illegal to resell Olympic tickets.

Some event promoters might make it a condition of purchase that the ticket cannot be resold. In which case this will be made clear in the terms and conditions. If the ticket is resold the seller does not then have the right to do so, so the buyer does not legally acquire the ticket. If the promoter has some way of knowing that this has happened they can legitimately refuse entry to the re-buyer. In theory they can get their money back from the seller, but they need to know where to find them.

I recently attended a pop concert using tickets that had been bought from a private reseller. The ticket conditions stated that resale was only not allowed if being done as a business. So if you genuinely have a surplus ticket you could have sold it on without problem. The price it is resold for would be irrelevant.

Why don’t gig tickets have their prices reduced when the event doesn’t sell out?

Just like how food that’s about to go off has its price slashed, why not the same with gig tickets? Surely it would make sense economically?

Why would they ?

Gig tickets are like any other ‘branded’ goods ..

When Chanel’s handbags fail to ’sell out’, do they drop the price ???? No of course not – if they did, people might start to question why they are paying $5000 for a handbag made in China for $5…

Fact is, by keeping prices high today no matter what, tomorrow they can justify the same outrageously high prices …

How do local bands get their tours planned?

Posted on June 24th, 2011 by admin

I was just wondering how do those "local" rock bands get started ? As in how do they plan tours, and how much do thye need in advance to save up to be able to land these gigs? I’m just wondering for a friend of mine who raps, trying to help him get some exposure.

They have managers that do all the planing. The manager works up a deal with club owners to book the band. My dad use to manage my sisters band. They would get 100% of all ticket sales and many times 10% of all other sales the club made. They were very popular and club owners would beg them to come and play. All money earned was split among the band members after expenses was taken out.

Do play.com still sell tickets to gigs/concerts?

Posted on June 22nd, 2011 by admin

I can’t find the link anywhere on the site for the sale of tickets – have they stopped?
If not could someone link me to the site please?

As far as I am aware they stopped doing that some time ago but to
make sure I’ve just check the site again and there is nothing listed.

How do you get people to show up at gig in towns you have never played before?

Posted on June 20th, 2011 by admin

i see all these local/regional bands going on self booked tours states away and people come to the shows even though the band has never played there before? how do people come to gigs out of your home town even though you have never played there before AND they have never been on your website?

It’s all about marketing yourself.

PLEASE HELP! How do I get myself booked for gigs to play?

Posted on June 17th, 2011 by admin

I am a musician in Mississippi, and I cannot seem to find any festivals or places where I can book myself a gig.

What do I do to get some booked? what do I search on the internet to find some around my area? and how do I ask the people to book me?

THANKS!

Practice, play, practice, play, practice, play, etc etc – until somebody walks up and says "Damn you’re good, would ya, could ya?" Watch what those that are working have down. Appearance, working the crowd, fitting the room right, handling requests (if at all), basic equipment. Keep your day job.
Pursue excellence in the music, the rest will follow.

Will there be allot of weed smokers at heavy metal concerts and gigs?

MOTORHEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah, most likely!

How can I get music gigs in a small town?

Posted on June 13th, 2011 by admin

I’m in the tiny town of Charleston Illinois but I’m too damn anti-social to go out and get answers for myself. That’s why I’m on yahoo answers! =D

Also I sing and play piano. I have no idea where to go here, I just finished college and moved here. I have no idea what to do.

If you’re too anti-social to walk into a bar and ask if you can play there, then there’s no hope.

They way to get gigs is to get off your duff and do legwork. If you can’t do that, get a manager.

Bars, hotels, shopping malls, churches, weddings, parties etc. You can find someone who wants a live musician. Don’t expect to be paid much, if anything. But you’re not in it for the money anyway, right?

Ghost in the Shell: what does the opening sequence mean in the 1st GIG ep. 1?

Posted on June 4th, 2011 by admin

When the episode first starts playing right after the theme song only in the first episode they show this:

It is a time when, even if nets were to guide all consciousness that had been converted to photons and electrons towards coalescing, stand alone individuals have not yet been converted into data to the extent that they can form unique components of a larger complex.

I have a theory or two, but would like a few others opinions also.

Here’s a few things to help:

Photon
photon – a quantum of electromagnetic radiation; an elementary particle that is its own antiparticle
or more info at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PHOTONS

Electron
an elementary particle with negative charge
or more info at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electron

This is from Wikipedia dictionary:

Verb
to coalesce (third-person singular simple present coalesces, present participle coalescing, simple past and past participle coalesced)
(of separate elements) To join into a single mass or whole.
The droplets coalesced into a puddle.
(of a whole or a unit) To form from different pieces or elements.
The puddle coalesced from the droplets as they ran together.
(engineering) When two, or more, pieces of metal are bonded together (usually via welding) by liquefying the places where they are to be bonded, coalescing these liquids, and allowing the coalesced liquid to solidify. At the end of this process the two pieces of metal have become one continuous solid.

Coalescing is the act of doing:
blend: mix together different elements; "The colors blend well", fuse or cause to grow together, to join into a single mass or whole
or for more info:
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/coalesce
I’m pretty sure is has a meaning, so "it means nothing" really isn’t an answer.

It means nothing.

Help putting together this heavy usage computer gig?

Posted on June 2nd, 2011 by admin

I am going to acquire a PC, thou I can’t seem to Know where to start, I wish to buy every part separately online (I’ll have someone to guide me while putting them together (I can probably do it as I know how, but I cant afford any miss happen))

I’m almost positive these features I need it to possess are going to cut some slack on each other so please take this into consideration as for each component must cut none or as little slack on each other for maximum quality and performance as a 1500 budget holds up, maybe 1600 (Try to keep it under the 1500).

-Powerful cooling system and endurance for 24/7 usage

-Heavy gaming off and online

-PS2 emulator (Can PS2 online-only video-games be carried as such, the emulator way?).
-High performance PC games.
-On-line RPGs.
(I will also need a PS2 joystick lookalike)
(I also like to play vintage games* through vintage console emulators, kind of a hobby. I like to think
they have certain flair to them…)
*I don’t believe this to be relevant, just thought I should say it.
(For character you know …Kind of lol …More like nervous
giggling)

-Heavy* (*Is it?) internet usage

(A thoroughly thought recommendation about a very good and improving modem (as for my current
connection is about 2mb only) would be most accepted. This is not be taken in to consideration within
the budget since it will be bought separately.)
-Daily multiple torrent downloads.
-Simultaneous mild surfing (* E-mail, * forum posting, * You Tube (and alike), * picture picking,
* Google, * Yahoo answers, * short & small downloads, * extensive
research, * chatting, * etc.)
*and/or
-Non-simultaneous* online gaming
*Except for RPG online games in which case there should be light
surfing, mostly co-related extended research.

-Listen to pristine*-sounding music
*As much and as a clever budget rationing permits.
(Please feel thoroughly free to also recommend the best speaker set for the sound-card of your
choosing as for it will also take part on this budget.)

-Heavy & extensive high-quality video playing
(As before feel thoroughly free to recommend a fitting monitor according to your chosen
recommendations as for it also will be taken from the budget)

I’ll need to install both Windows and Linux so take this in to consideration, I’ll have the torrent related downloads and most of the downloads with Linux, Windows is mainly for the gaming or as I see fit, thou I do not have a clear idea about which OP system use for each way of gaming (Through emulation, online RPG, for-PC only games) to obtain maximum results (I would really appreciate any recommendations).

I will need a large hard drive, although besides that I most certainly need an external hard drive of about 1TB minimum for storage, it’s imperative for it to stand the torrent to be constantly accessing it to upload as for most external hard drives this large are solely for storage.

Keyboard, mouse and joystick (PS2 lookalike) cordless, a (fast high quality) web-cam may not be cordless (are there cordless web-cams? and If so, accessible?)
So Platinum D, Would you recommend some magazines?

Let me start by asking you a question: have you ever put together a PC before? By putting together a PC I mean: like going out and researching what CPU to buy, what motherboard provides good performance, what graphics card provides optimum video-out for your system, etc, and then actually going out and buying those components, putting things together, loading the OS and the appropriate drivers, and finally booting the whole she-bang.

So, if you have put together a PC before, then you should most definitely go ahead and put your new rig together. Oh! And don’t forget to share your experience in assembling your "monster rig" on some site.

But, if you have never put together a PC , then I would STRONGLY recommend that you go get yourself a very high end PC from a reputed vendor (Dell, HP, etc). Buying your PC from such a source will ensure that the hardware and software has been matched at construction time. This will also leave you time so you can focus on finding all the other software (PS2 emulator, etc) and hardware (PS2 "joystick", etc) you need.

Also, don’t forget to buy extended warranty, so that you can live peacefully with that brand-name PC of yours.

As for your modem, I don’t think there can be any firm suggestions. Your new PC will most definitely have an Ethernet port and you will connect to your modem through it. As for download speeds, you will have to find the best service provider in your place. If you live in a place where your local Internet service provider offers fiber-to-the-home (e.g. Verizon in the US), then, you should most definitely consider a 100Mbps (or more) fiber connection. Just check what, if any, download caps they have (e.g. some cable service providers have 25GB up/download limits, and you will QUICKLY run out of your download limit if you have a lot of torrent traffic on the pipe).

It is my understanding that Windows has a much larger selection of "packaged games" compared to Linux. Although, I do know that a lot of game-engines are now open source and therefore a lot of old games have been ported onto Linux natively.

For all your video needs you will have to equip your PC with the latest and the greatest graphics card, though know this fully well: your graphics card’s power will substantially decrease the moment it leaves the store shelves. (I still remember buying a "very high-end" graphics card from Fry’s a few years back only to realize that it had been SUPERSEDED by a much higher-end graphics card within the next two weeks!!)

Continuing on that same last point, realize that your PC will seem significantly less powerful the moment it leaves the store/warehouse shelves: that is Moore’s law. :)

I hope you get the PC of your dreams. I hope you enjoy it. I hope you find this answer at least a wee bit helpful.
