How do I find babysitting gigs in my area?

Posted on September 29th, 2011 by admin

I need money to buy a homecoming dress, my family is really tight on money, so i wanna use my own, so i need to babysit. I’m not old enough for a real job. How do i go about finding gigs and people who need babysitters?

As another poster said, use Sittercity.com, but also try Care.com. Both sites are the most popular amongst us parents looking for babysitting.
You will need to post an a profile about yourself on both sites. As a parent, I have some advice on what to include that will help you get interviews.
Take the background check (it’s $10) if you are serious about babysitting. Parents feel more comfortable with those individuals that have this done already.
Post a good picture of yourself looking as clean-cut as possible and smiling.
Be as descriptive as possible about yourself, your qualifications, your past experience, even about what motivates you to want to work with children and since you are young, something about your future aspirations and family life.
Make sure your availability is current and that the pay rate you post is reasonable. In other words, if you are younger than 18, a pay range of $15 to $20 is much too high.
Good luck!

Do The Horrors still play songs from strange house in their gigs?

Posted on September 13th, 2011 by admin

I saw the Horrors at Reading last week, they were really good but they didn’t play any songs from their debut album :/
I’m thinking about seeing them at one of their gigs soon but wondering if it’d be worth it. Has anyone been to one of their gigs/seen them at a festival recently where they’ve played any songs from strange house?

Don’t know. Never seen them live before, but awesome band :D

Can anybody think of a snappy username for me?

Posted on September 10th, 2011 by admin

I’m starting a store on Etsy to be able to try and save a little for future gigs and tours I may go to.
I’m going to sell felt toys that I have been able to sell in school and around my work, but I now want to broaden my customers and sell online.
I need to think of a snappy user name, but lucky me, I’m no good at those kind of things. Could anybody think of a good user name for me? My name is Josy.

Hi Josy,

To fire up creativity, you can visit Etsync.com, a site with tools for Etsy sellers. They have a Shop Name Generator: http://www.etsync.com/shopname/

It´s fun to use, and it might give you some very surprising shop name suggestions.

Also don´t forget to check out this post with some really good tips for a great Etsy shop name:

Success !

How do I blag my way into gigs and festivals?

Posted on September 4th, 2011 by admin

I would like to go to some top gigs and festivals this summer but they are either sold out or they cost way too much. Any ideas on blgging my way in?
Cheers x

There’s usually people standing outside festivals, offering to get people in for a small fee (could be anything between £30 – £100) beware, some of these people will be con artists, but some could help you out. A popular method is someone taking their wristband off once they’re inside the festival, then someone else takes their wristband in their pocket, goes back outside the festival and gives it to someone else. People will charge for this privilege if they don’t know you though.

Apart from that, just go on the day and see if you can get lucky. People sell unwanted tickets on the day and you never know what will happen. Pick the festival closest to where you live and go down in the morning and see what happens. Worst case scenario, you’ll end up going back home again.

Most people I know (including myself) who have tried their luck to get into a festival on the day, have achieved it. And for a lot bloody less than tickets on Ebay!

Gigs are harder to to blag, but it’s more likely touts will be selling cheap tickets outside.
